DTA e-learning on caring for LGBTI people with dementia
Dementia Training Australia (DTA) is offering a new online course to help dementia care workers and organisations provide inclusive care and services for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people with dementia.
A new online course has been launched to help health and aged care workers deliver inclusive care and services for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people with dementia.
The e-learning course is delivered by Dementia Training Australia and includes four learning modules. These modules explore:
- the range of sexual diversity within the Australian population
- the lived experiences of LGBTI people
- key considerations for care of older LGBTI people with dementia
- how organisations can become more LGBTI inclusive.
The free course, which begins next month, aims to increase the awareness of strategies organisations can use to become more inclusive and the resources available to providers.
Each module includes videos, readings and a quiz. It is estimated the course will take six hours to complete.
DTA said the short courses are mobile friendly and are designed to support learning away from the desk.
DTA is a consortium of experts and dementia educators led by the University of Wollongong and funded by the Federal Government to deliver national education and training to health and aged care staff.
