Becoming A Dementia-Friendly Arts Venue: A Practical Guide
A guide to help arts and cultural organisations make venues more dementia-friendly
Advice and best-practice examples to help arts and cultural organisations engage with people with dementia and their families and carers, make venues more dementia-friendly and accessible and adjust their programs to be more inclusive of people with dementia.
The guide was created by the UK’s Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Friendly Communities Program team, with members of the Prime Minister’s Champion Group on the Arts.
Suitable for people running arts venues of all kinds, large and small, urban and rural, theatres, concert halls, museums and galleries anywhere in the world. It covers community engagement, accessibility (advice on publicising your venue to people with dementia and making it a welcoming and safe space), programming (how to program events and activities that take into account the needs of people with dementia), examples of successful initiatives, and includes a list of resources and local organisations.
The Appendix contains a summary of the evidence for arts-based programs within dementia care.
