This website www.australianclinicaltrials.gov.au allows Australian health care providers, researchers and consumers to access information about the latest clinical trials, including dementia trials.

It is a joint initiative of the Australian Government and the National Health and Medical Research Council aimed at boosting patient participation in clinical trials and making it easier for people to take part in innovative medical research.

Users can search for trials by health condition. For example, dementia research trials are listed under ‘Neurological’ and then ‘Dementias’. Each has trial information, eligibility criteria and contact details.

There’s also a section with eLearning modules (https://www.australianclinicaltrials.gov.au/elearning-modules) by NHMRC which give an overview of the nature and importance of the clinical trials environment. The modules provide an introduction to the clinical trials environment, clinical research ethics and ethical review and research governance processes.

The site also provides an overview of the activities currently being undertaken as part of the Australian Government Clinical Trials Initiatives to improve the clinical trials environment in Australia and increase its international competitiveness in this area. These include the Clinical Trials Ready Initiative to recognise clinical trial sites, including public and private hospitals and other organisations that are ‘ready, willing and able’ to carry out high quality clinical trials in a timely, transparent and efficient manner.
